Highlights from the 2025 Warley at Statfold Show

Held on 11 and 12 October 2025 the event enticed hundreds of enthusiasts and family groups to enjoy the show's special blend of outstanding layouts, varied trade and Society exhibits together with modelling demonstrations, free live-steam train rides, and - new in 2025 - heritage fairground fun in the recently opened National Fairground Museum.

A new permanent railway modelling display

Also new in 2025 was the permanent model railway display on the mezzanine floor in the roundhouse section of the Statfold Museum. Assembled by members of Warley MRC, the display includes working layouts and historical dioramas that will be accessible to visitors during all Statfold event days and weekends.

The opening ceremony of the new permanent display took place on the Saturday Morning. Pictured are (from left) Chris Freeth who oversaw the installation of the layouts, His Worshipful Lord Mayor of Tamworth Councillor Chris Bain, Graham Lee of Statfold, and Matt Hill, Chairman of Warley Model Railway Club

Far Twittering and Oysterperch Railway

A particularly unusual exhibit in the permanent display is a fantasy layout based on the cartoon drawings of Roland Emmet and called the Far Twittering and Oysterperch Railway (see Railway Modeller issues Dec 1970 & Oct 1999). It has been resurrected and is now a central part of the permanent display.

Best in Show winners 2025

Also invited as special guest was Elaine Giles, the deputy mayor of Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council (where Warley MRC is based). Elaine was tasked with judging the layout she considered as the best in the show. Her award went to Peter Kirmond for his 2mm finescale depiction of York Station in the 1930s. Elaine was also impressed by Joe Stamper’s Bottom of the Barrel display, a model of a brewery built inside a cut-away beer barrel. Joe received a highly commended from Elaine for his creativity and imagination.
